INSIGHT 2026 (INclusive Safety & Inequality in Everyday Mobility): Advancing Equity and Traffic Safety Across Daily Travel

From 16 to 18 June, as part of the TWIN-SAFE project, the INSIGHT 2026 Summer School – Inclusive Traffic Safety & Mobility was held in Zagreb, Croatia, dedicated to Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) in the context of traffic safety and everyday mobility.

Over three days, participants engaged in lectures, interactive exercises and group work addressing key questions such as how structural inequalities shape mobility patterns and transport risks, how traffic safety outcomes are unequally distributed across social groups, and how traffic safety and mobility can be rethought through perspectives such as intersectionality, gendered mobilities, and child- and age-friendly cities.

The programme also included discussions on transport equity, actual and perceived road safety, gender inequalities, accessibility for all, and field observations. It concluded with group work presentations, discussions and shared reflections.

We would like to thank the course coordinators from Lund University and Hasselt University for their valuable contribution: Vanessa Stjernborg, Lena Hiselius, Carl Jonsson and An Neven.
