TWINSAFE - .
We're excited to announce the final event in our TWIN-SAFE PhD seminar series!
This concluding seminar will feature Marija Ferko presenting:
โUnveiling the Key Factors Behind Injury Severity in Single-Vehicle Motorcycle Crashesโ
Marija Ferko is a Cotutelle PhD student at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, and Hasselt University, Faculty of Engineering Technology. Her research focuses on identifying the factors that influence motorcycle rider safety, with a particular emphasis on rural roads. Over the past few years, Marija has actively contributed to both expert and research projects related to motorcyclists, examining rider behavior and the impact of road infrastructure on their safety.
In this seminar, Marija will present her study on the factors affecting crash severity, based on police-reported crash data from the Republic of Croatia (2017โ2022). The study applies two distinct modeling approaches – multinomial logistic regression and random forest modeling -to investigate the key determinants of crash severity.

Another insightful session in the TWIN-SAFE Road Safety Research seminar series is behind us!
Today, May 23rd, we had the pleasure of hosting Elvira Grahn, a second-year PhD candidate at Lund University who specializes in Transport Planning and Mobility within the DUT project Conflicted Streets.
She gave a presentation titled: โConflicted Streets: Knowledge, Rationality, and Traffic Safety in the Contested Street-Level Retraction of Automobility.โ
A big thank you to everyone who joined us today.
Stay tuned for our final PhD seminar next month!
Join us for the next online PhD seminar in our TWIN-SAFE Road Safety Research series!
We are pleased to welcome Elvira Grahn, a second-year PhD candidate at Lund University, specializing in Transport Planning and Mobility within the DUT (Driving Urban Transitions) project Conflicted Streets. With a background in cultural and urban studies, Elvira investigates socio-spatial aspects of mobility, focusing on how knowledge and rationality are produced and contested in street-level planning conflicts.
Elvira will present: “Conflicted Streets: knowledge, rationality, and traffic safety in contested street-level retraction of automobility”
This seminar will dive into the inherently conflictual nature of reducing car traffic through street-level planning interventions. Elvira will discuss how these conflicts unfold at the intersection of land-use planning, transport planning, and sustainability transitionsโoffering a context-specific conceptualization of conflict and highlighting how traffic safety is strategically used by different stakeholders.
